Foxglove Farm & Garden Supply 50th Anniversary Photos

Foxglove Farm & Garden Supply turned fifty this year, and I spent a warm, happy afternoon in the greenhouse making photos of the gathering they put on to mark it. Fifty years is a long time for any shop to keep its doors open, and longer still for one that has quietly become part of how this island grows its gardens.

Fifty years rooted on Salt Spring Island

There is something steadying about a place that has been around for half a century. Foxglove has watched a lot of seasons come and go on Salt Spring Island, selling seed and soil and the small practical things that gardens need, and the anniversary felt less like a sales event and more like a reunion. People who have shopped there for decades turned up alongside folks who moved here last spring.

How we approached the photos

We kept it loose and observational, the way we like to work an event like this one: following the light, watching for the small moments between people rather than lining everyone up. Sydney moved through the greenhouse quietly, letting the afternoon unfold and photographing it as it came. Fifty years of keeping islanders in seedlings and good advice is worth celebrating, and we were glad to be asked along. Here is to the next season, and the many after it. Thank you for having us down to the greenhouse.
