Folklore Creative Company · Salt Spring Island, BC
Folklore Creative Company — photography, film, handmade tintype, and tools for creatives, from Salt Spring Island.
The idea
I'm Sydney Woodward, and I founded Folklore Creative Company on a single idea: make the things worth keeping.
Folklore is the story a community holds onto and hands down. That's the standard I hold every part of this company to — the photographs your family keeps, the film your work is remembered by, the tintype that outlives the person in it, the tools that help another creative build a life around their craft. I work the way a documentarian does: quietly, patiently, watching for the in-between moments where people and places are most themselves. Less about performing for the camera, more about being present enough to catch the real thing.
The company is rooted on Salt Spring Island and works across the Gulf Islands, Vancouver Island, and beyond.
What we do
A shared creative space and gallery on Salt Spring — where the work is made, and where local artists show and sell the work of their hands.
Portraits, families, events, and editorial work — made with intention and an eye for the real, unguarded moment.
Documentary and short films, brand storytelling, and media for artists and organizations with something true to say.
One-of-a-kind portraits made by hand with the 19th-century wet plate process — plus a service to turn your own digital images into lasting tintype prints.
The systems that run this company, now being built into tools for other photographers, filmmakers, and makers.
Say hello
Whether you're building something, marking a season, or slowing down long enough to be seen — I'd love to help you make something that lasts.
